Tokyo

FC Tokyo, under the guidance of manager Matsukashi, ended the 2025 season in a modest 11th place. The capital club has carried that underwhelming form into the new campaign, failing to secure a single victory after two rounds of J1 League action. Can the hosts finally turn things around on their own turf against a side that just earned promotion from the second division?
Chiba finished third in J2 last season and then navigated the playoffs to earn a spot in the top flight. So far, the newcomers have nothing to show for their efforts: zero points and zero goals scored. Will the “Yellow-Greens” manage to improve that grim record on the road?
Tokyo looked reasonably solid both in terms of performance and results during the short transition season earlier this year. But the start of the new championship has been a different story. After two matchdays, the hosts have only one point and sit in a dismal 17th place.
In their last outing, Matsukashi’s men salvaged a 2-2 draw away to Kobe. Following the humiliating 1-5 defeat to Machida in the opening round, the result against the strongest team of the transition season can certainly be considered a step forward. Yet the bitter taste remains: once again, Tokyo let victory slip away in stoppage time of the second half.
It’s a good thing Chiba already got a taste of top-flight football during the short transition season (when no one was relegated). But that experience hasn’t translated into positive results in the current championship. After two rounds, the team is still pointless.
In the previous round, Kobayashi’s side suffered a heavy 0-4 home defeat to Machida. The gulf in class between Chiba and the J1 elite is glaring. Machida outplayed the visitors in every department – winning the corner count 8-2 and the shots-on-target battle 5-2. So far, there are no bright spots in the game of the J1 newcomers.
Main Bet: Tokyo to win @ 1.50
Tokyo are the clear favourites here. Matsukashi’s side have no room for error – another poor season would mean another dreary fight to stay out of the bottom half of the J1 table. The performance against Kobe was encouraging and should give the capital club’s fans some optimism. Chiba, on the other hand, look hopeless. The J1 debutants are weak both in attack and defence. It’s worth noting that Tokyo suffered a heavy 0-3 defeat to Chiba in the short transition season, but at that time the hosts had no tournament motivation left. Expect a convincing revenge victory. Back Tokyo to win at 1.50.
Exact Score Prediction: 2-1 @ 7.90
Tokyo have scored six goals in their last five matches, an average of 1.2 per game. Chiba have netted five in the same period, averaging one per game. Tokyo have yet to keep a clean sheet this championship, so the visitors should have chances to score. But the newcomers will likely concede more than they manage. A 2-1 home win seems a reasonable exact-score bet.
